Are you thinking of disposing of your Christmas tree? Well, hold your horses! Just because the holidays are now over doesn’t mean they are useless. It is far too easy to simply toss out your Christmas tree, but we have some ideas on what else you can do with it.
When it is time to put it down, consider these fun projects instead:
Protection against the elements
Use its branches to protect shrubs from snow and frost. You only have to cut several branches and put them on top of delicate plants.
Convert it into a bird feeder
Prop it up outdoors in a shaded area for use as a bird feeder. String the tree with apple and orange slices or similar bird-friendly treats. Birds might even use it to build nests during the wintertime!
Add it to a compost pile
Compost the Christmas tree. Use smaller lots for the tree branches if you have a small compost pile.
Use it as a winter mulch
Use a wood chipper to chip the branches and use it as mulch for the garden in the wintertime.
Send it to the recycling
Recycle the tree by putting it in the council brown bin. It is also possible to take note of local drop-off points for chipping and shredding. Just keep in mind that there is a good chance that you have to first chop it up into smaller pieces. Once they are the right size, you can then put them in the brown bin with no problems.
Use it as firewood
You should not do this as soon as you cut up the tree. Instead, stack the chopped branches somewhere dry and wait until they have dried out.
